Statement Regarding COVID-19

To the Montessori for Social Justice Community,
First, we would like to acknowledge the difficult position many in our broader Montessori community are in as a result of the recent cancellations and travel bans. Choosing to close schools to protect the health of our students sometimes comes at a steep financial cost. We also see many in our Montessori community exchanging ideas for how to support at home learning, and are in awe of this initiative and commitment to education.
Second, it is with great sadness that we must announce that the Montessori for Social Justice Conference 2020 “Imagining Liberation…Honoring Our Humanity” is now cancelled. We have been monitoring the situation closely and feel the need to cancel the June event. We are exploring options for sharing some of the content for the 2020 Conference remotely and will continue to support our online community. Rest assured that the Montessori for Social Justice Conference will return in full force in June 2021.
For those who have already purchased tickets, there are two options. If you would like to turn your ticket purchase into a donation, please let us know as soon as possible. If we do not hear from you, you will receive a full refund of the ticket price ($225 Early Bird and $250 Standard), though, unfortunately, the Eventbrite fees are non-refundable (as per Eventbrite policy). Refunds will be processed automatically on Monday, March 23, 2020 unless we have been contacted and told to change your ticket purchase to a donation. Funds donated via the “Donate” ticket will only be refunded at special request. All donated funds will be held and used to support scholarships and event production for the 2021 MSJ Conference.
Please contact us at if you have further questions or concerns.
Though this year’s conference may be cancelled, the strength of our community and commitment to equitable education and disrupting systemic oppression does not waiver. We will see you online and in June 2021. For now, we wish you well and encourage folx to follow the public health guidelines in their areas to help keep our children, our elders and our global community safe.
In Solidarity,
Tanesia Hale-Jones (She/Her/Hers) & Faiqa Khan (She/Her/Hers)
Montessori for Social Justice, Conference Co-Chairs
